Architect

MSI General is seeking an experienced commercial construction Architect to join our team. We are one of the first fully integrated DESIGNBUILD construction firms in Wisconsin, with over 60 years of continuous profitability delivering excellence in design, estimating, and construction management. We would like to find a qualified Architect to join our team! The Architect at MSI General is responsible for overall project design implementation, concepts and objectives.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop proposal and construction documents
  • Prepare plan sets that include; site plans, floor plans, elevations, sections, details sections, and other items as necessary to convey the design intent
  • Become familiar with municipal requirements including; zoning, setback, landscape, lighting, parking, easements, design standards, construction materials, allowable heights and area, signage and fire protection and alarms
  • DesignBuild experience a plus but not required
  • Ability to participate in presentation to clients
  • Graphic communication experience
  • Excellent communication skills, being a confident communicator in team environment
  • High competence in detailing and dissecting of building components

 

Required Knowledge:

  • Current State of Wisconsin and local codes
  • AutoCAD, Revit, Enscape, Sketchup, Microsoft Office products
  • Design/build process, Architecture/Design principles
  • Building materials and related construction types and techniques
  • Relationship between the design process and the construction process
  • Building systems – Structural, MEP, site analysis
  • Concept of value engineering from the initial design concept while still creating design excellence
  • Current drawing standards
  • MSI General’s current Master Specification requirements

 

Required Qualifications:

  • BA Architecture
  • 8-15 years’ experience
  • Licensed in Wisconsin

Project Superintendent

MSI General is seeking an experienced commercial construction Project Superintendent to join our team. We are one of the first fully integrated DESIGNBUILD construction firms in Wisconsin, with over 60 years of continuous profitability delivering excellence in design, estimating, and construction management. We would like to find a qualified Superintendent to supervise day-to-day activities on multiple projects in SE Wisconsin. This position develops strategy and leads the project site activities to successful, on-time and in-budget completion of construction projects. Qualified candidates must have general knowledge of all aspects of constructing a building, including, but not limited to, site work, concrete, masonry, steel enclosure, finishes, and mechanical, electrical and plumbing.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Develop & administer project schedules
  • Visit assigned job site(s) daily
  • Review & interpret drawings and submittals
  • Manage job site safety and cleanliness
  • Maintain copies of drawings and subcontractor submittals
  • Communicate with subcontractors, team members, owners, and building inspectors
  • Resolve all questions, concerns, or conflicts on plans or in the field promptly and with diligence
  • Review and approve subcontractor invoices for completed work
  • Report on job status at the weekly company job progress meeting
  • Maintain close contact with the owner or owner’s representatives in the field
  • Issue Field Work Authorization Notices for non-contracted work
  • Attend project meetings, run regular and special subcontractor coordination meetings

 

Required Knowledge:

  • All aspects of constructing a building, including, but not limited to: site work, concrete, masonry, steel enclosure, finishes, and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing
  • Building codes
  • Safety rules and requirements Microsoft Office programs, especially Outlook, Work and Excel

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 7-10 years of direct construction supervision management
  • Valid driver’s license

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • B.S. Degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering
  • OSHA safety training – 10 hour course

Estimator

MSI General is seeking an experienced commercial construction Estimator to join our team! We are one of the first fully integrated DESIGNBUILD construction firms in Wisconsin, with over 60 years of continuous profitability delivering excellence in design, estimating, and construction management. We are Veteran-owned, and the only company on the Business Journal’s Book of Lists for both Top Architectural & Construction firms in 2019 & 2020. We would like to find an Estimator to solicit and receive project proposals from subcontractors, analyze bids, negotiate contracts, problem solve, and control project costs. This position requires a well-rounded estimating background – Design Build, negotiated, conceptual, and hard bid.

 

Position Responsibilities:

  • Execute bid process – both project requirements and subcontract
  • Review and understand proposal and construction drawings
  • Complete project scope – through creation of bid instructions
  • Select bidders
  • Evaluate and qualify subcontractor proposals
  • Prepare budget cost estimate
  • Value Engineering through scope, sequencing & design evaluations
  • Negotiate with subcontractors (buyout and extras), and issue subcontracts
  • Manage and maintain project costs – issue subcontract change orders

 

Required/Preferred Knowledge:

  • Subcontractors abilities and areas of expertise
  • Knowledge of the seasonal changes, and effect on construction costs
  • Construction types and techniques
  • Costs of construction: concrete, masonry, steel, carpentry, doors, mechanicals etc.
  • Building codes, estimating, safety requirements
  • Architectural knowledge (styles, terms, details etc.)

 

Required Qualifications:

  • 10 years related estimating experience in construction

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Construction Management Degree (2 to 4 year) or related technical degree
