Mars Cheese Castle
2013 Original Build, 2018 Expansion Project: Kenosha, WI
The iconic Mars Cheese Castle store on highway 94 was affected by the expansion of the freeway, and the owners were asked to move their building. The state of Wisconsin offered them a site adjacent to their old building, and the owners, the Ventura and Wehrmeister families, hired MSI General to construct a new expanded store that would retain the iconic image that they had but expand into a larger store with a better outward appearance and castle-like features.
Over a period of two years, MSI General worked with the family to establish a new design to transition ownership to their sons. This included a new restaurant, wine area, cheese area, beer garden, and a larger parking lot. In order to make sure that large pylon sign remained as it was, we were approved to take the sign and move it, sandblast it, and repaint for a bright, fresh new look.
The building won awards at the Excellence in Masonry Awards in 2012 from the Wisconsin Masonry Alliance, receiving Best in Show and Best of Concrete Masonry.
