We partnered with West Bend community stakeholders to restore the Historic West Bend Theatre, a landmark originally designed by a renowned Chicago architectural firm and constructed in 1929. After decades of neglect and a prolonged closure beginning in 2006, the building was carefully revitalized to honor its architectural legacy while reestablishing its role as a vibrant cultural destination. The restoration returned the theater to its original beauty and contributed to its designation on both the State and National Registers of Historic Places.
Early coordination between designers, builders, preservation specialists, and community representatives was essential to navigating the complexities of historic renovation. The integrated project team worked closely to evaluate existing conditions, align preservation goals with budget and schedule parameters, and develop solutions that balanced authenticity with long-term performance. This collaborative planning process supported cost control, constructability, and schedule certainty while safeguarding historically significant materials and architectural details.
The renovation included comprehensive building system upgrades, seamlessly integrating modern electrical, plumbing, HVAC, and audio-visual infrastructure within the historic structure. One of the most significant achievements was the meticulous restoration of original artwork, including the vibrant colors and intricate detailing on the walls, proscenium arch, and ceiling. Through DESIGNBUILD delivery, the project breathed new life into the theater—preserving its historic character while positioning the venue to serve future generations as a functional, welcoming, and culturally significant community asset.

Without MSI General, we would not have been able to get as far as we got. They stepped in early and supported us through the initial phases of due diligence and whether or not this project was going to be a possibility. A good, heart-felt thank you to your team.
