The Riviera Ballroom

Project Summary

Location

Lake Geneva, WI

Scope of Work

The Riviera, built in 1932, has been a beloved venue for weddings and events. Time may have challenged its beauty, but the restoration performed by MSI General revived it to its former glory.

Project Details

  • Phase I of the renovation included replacing the clay tile roof, second floor and clerestory windows, and masonry restoration.
  • Phase II was the renovation of the ballroom, concession area, boat house, and boat launch.
  • Building improvements were made possible by a large fundraising campaign.
  • Updates included central air and an energy-efficient furnace, sprinkler system, security and AV system, chandelier and sconces in the ballroom, elevator and accessible ramp, new wood doors and windows, new maple dance floor, new custom bar and reception desk, and replacement of the dropped ceilings with plaster.
  • Care was taken during the revitalization project to maintain the historical integrity of the building while modernizing it to accommodate its intended year-round use.
  • In order to keep the Riviera open during the busy season, the required work could only be performed from February to May.
  • The Riviera won the 2022 Board of Curators Historic Restoration Award from the Wisconsin Historical Society.
