Nativity of the Lord

Designed to better serve parishioners and guests, the expanded narthex at Nativity of the Lord Catholic Church creates a warm, accessible space for connection before and after services. The project centered on improving circulation, accessibility, and the overall entry experience, transforming the church’s main entrance into a more functional and welcoming gathering space.

Early collaboration focused on reconfiguring the existing layout to improve flow and openness. An interior stairway and exterior entrance were closed to open the footprint and establish a spacious new narthex designed for fellowship and movement. The former entrance was completely re-envisioned, with the removal of front doors and stairs allowing a dramatic three-story stained-glass window to become the central focal point. MSI General’s structural team addressed and reinforced significant deterioration surrounding the window, ensuring its long-term stability while preserving an important architectural and spiritual element of the church.

Delivery was guided by a thoughtful DESIGNBUILD approach that balanced historic character with modern functionality. Material selections and finishes were carefully chosen to complement existing architectural elements while enhancing durability and visual continuity. As part of the revitalization, existing restrooms were modernized to meet accessibility standards, and foundational preparations were completed for a future elevator—supporting the parish’s long-term commitment to universal access and inclusive design.
